.....C R E D I T / J O C K E R S
Everyday I see numerous sites claiming that one person or another has stole this or that from them. I would like to put my two cents into this touchy topic.
Ideas I can't believe that people claim to say that people steal their ideas. We all get creativity from one another and thats why many layout sites look exactly the same! You may base something off of another person's ideas, but I don't truly believe you steal it. That is like saying that someone has stolen my idea for guess the celeb. So many sites have it; you can't claim that someone has stolen yours. However, if it is something like an idea for a site or a plan, that is stealing. Or taking your exact rules. Then credit should be given. In general though, ideas are intangible; you can't steal them.
Graphics Graphics, unlike ideas, are something tangible. So many people steal graphics, and it is highly annoying. To me, it is obvious when someone steals because they either don't take off the credit or try to delete it but mess it up even more. People work hard on their graphics; don't steal! However, technically, if you use a celebrity you are stealing yourself if you do not credit. I never see any credit sections on the sites I see. It is obvious that you did not take the picture of the celebrity, therefore it is not yours. If you use someone else's PSD, it is not yours. Credit! If you use someone else's brushes, credit! If you use icons that aren't yours, credit! I see this so often! Credit for using fonts, programs, etc. You could potentially get in trouble if you don't!
Coding Stealing someone else's coding is wrong. However, if you use it as a guideline I believe that it is acceptable. If you are completely trying to copy their colors and positioning, ask them first! Otherwise this too is stealing.
Taking off credit This is just wrong! There is no reason for it. People work hard on their things; respect this! If you don't, yes you are a steal and a jocker. It's annoying and rude. Show some respect!
I truly believe that this lack of credit is due to inexperience. I have been making websites for over five years, so I consider myself skilled in the area of netiquette. It is only proper to credit people for their hard work! I know you may want to make your site popular, but in the end it takes true talent. The only way to build talent is by trial and error. Copying someone elses work and pasting it upon your site is not talent. Please be courteous and credit those who deserve it!
